 Bridgestone Turanza ER33 Tire Review

If you’re in the market for a new set of tires, you may be wondering if the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 is worth the investment. They have been designed to offer superior handling in wet and dry conditions, as well as better acceleration, braking and durability.

In this review, we will take a closer look at the features and benefits of the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 to help you decide if they are the right tire for your needs!

Bridgestone Turanza ER33 Tire Features

The Bridgestone Turanza ER33 is a Premium Touring Summer Tire designed for all-season performance. It is a bespoke tire fitted to new Lexus vehicles and is available for the majority of the popular vehicles on the road today.

It had been designed with a new tread pattern which features four circumferential grooves. This new design has been shown to better displace water and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. The tread pattern also has an asymmetric design, provides better handling and stability in wet and dry conditions.

The Bridgestone Turanza ER33 also features improved braking capability due to an advanced “silica-enhanced” tread compound and a special 3D groove design. This combination of features increases the tire’s braking performance by up to 10% compared to standard tires, as well as helps to extend the life of the tire by providing better traction and available gripping

Read on to find our detailed breakdown of the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 and what makes it such a great tire!

Dry Performance

The dry performance of the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 we found to be more than satisfactory. It was able to move off repeatedly without any issue or loss of traction. It also was able to provide these good levels of grip from a cold start the moment you set off.

The tire has not been designed to provided much feedback or response in a sporty manner, making it more suited for a more relaxed driver who prioritises a more comfortable and easy ride.

This means that it does lack the confidence of a more performance oriented tire and if you are looking for something more sporty, you may be better off looking elsewhere.

Wet Performance

The wet performance of the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 was one of our favourite features. It offers a superior levels of grip in wet conditions against any other tire in its class thanks to its new features and rubber compound. It is able to move off with relative ease, as well as providing good levels of feedback to notify you when you are pushing it too hard.

The four circumferential grooves allow for better water evacuation which helps improve braking distances and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. The asymmetric tread design also helps provide improved stability and gripping power in both wet and dry conditions.

Overall, the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 performed exceptionally well in the wet, with good levels of grip and stability, making it an ideal tire for all-weather driving!

Tire longevity

We tested the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 for ourselves and found out for ourselves what everyone has already praised this tire for. It is extremely durable and is one of the longest and hardest wearing tires we have ever tested!

Owners have often said that they are easily able to last 50,000KM or more before having to replace them, which is a huge plus for anyone looking for great value from their tires.

It had no visible wear or tear after our tests and we would definitely recommend this tire to anyone looking for a hard wearing and reliable summer tire. This is thanks to the tires stiff construction and stiff sidewalls.

Summer tires are most often the most durable kind of tires as they are required to withstand the potential high temperatures of summer which can cause tires to degrade faster. The Bridgestone Turanza ER33 does not seem to suffer from this issue and we can certainly recommend it for those looking for a great value summer tire that will last a long time.

Snow and Ice Performance

When the weather gets colder, the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 like all summer tires unfortunately starts to struggle. The asymmetric tread design and 3D grooves can help provide some grip in these conditions, as well as aiding cornering and stability on slippery surfaces.

However, as the tire is already designed to be as durable as it can thanks to its stiff construction, the colder temperatures cause the rubber tire to harden further, reducing the grip in sub zero temperatures. If you factor in snow or ice into the equation as well, you can expect the grip to suffer even more.

This means that the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 is not suitable for regular winter driving, and if you live in an area that experiences heavy snowfall, we would recommend investing in a dedicated set of winter tires.

Off Roading Performance

The Bridgestone Turanza ER33 is designed as a primarily highway tire, which means it may not be suitable for off-roading. The stiff construction and lack of treads mean that the tire will struggle to provide enough grip in anything but the most basic off road conditions.

You will likely find that there are tire sizes that will allow the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 to fit onto your truck or jeep or of road vehicle. However you should not expect any performance in off roading conditions as it lacks a number of key features that are essential for off roading.

We would recommend investing in some more dedicated off road tires that are specifically designed to tackle the more difficult terrain and provide extra grip for those more treacherous off-roading conditions.

Comfort and Noise

Sadly for all a tires durability, the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 does suffer a bit in terms of comfort. This is due to the stiff construction that makes it so durable, but also causes quite a bit of harshness on rougher road surfaces. The stiff rubber compound makes the tire is less pliable and less able to absorb the bumps in the road, making them more noticeable.

This is a common tradeoff that tire manufacturers have to make when choosing to produce durable tires and unfortunately for this tire, it scores poorly for road noise.

While the ride is still comfortable enough, it does lack the smoothness you would find with a tire that has been chosen as the tire of choice for luxury vehicle brand Lexus and other JDM market vehicles. It also suffers from some road noise at higher speeds which can make long journeys less pleasant.

If you are looking for an exceptionally quiet tire or something with a superior ride quality, then you may want to look elsewhere.

Economy

Another benefit usually associated with summer tires is their excellent fuel economy. The Bridgestone Turanza ER33 does not disappoint in this regard and proved to be an impressive performer when tested for fuel efficiency.

The symmetric tread pattern and stiff construction of the tire help to reduce rolling resistance, something that helps you get more miles from your tank of gas. We were able to achieve excellent fuel economy numbers from this summer tire, and can definitely recommend this tire for those looking to save money on fuel.

Price/value

Finally, we come to the cost of this tire. Considering its excellent wet performance and durability, it is affordable with most sizes ranging from $100-400 per tire depending on size.

This makes the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 good value for money when taking into account the longevity, however it means it is competing with other high performance and higher priced tires too.

If you are looking for the very best performance and have a higher budget, then there may be better options available. However if you are just looking for a dependable tire that will help to maximise your fuel economy and last a long time, then this is a great option and we would consider it good value for money.

Tire size

The Bridgestone Turanza ER33 is available in sizes from 16 to 19 inches, including:

215/60R16225/60R16225/50R17225/55R17225/40R18235/45R18

Warranty

Warranty is where the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 also falls down with no tread wear or mileage warranty offered by Bridgestone.

However they do offer a “90 Day Buy & Try Guarantee” which allows you to test out the tire and if you’re not satisfied then you can return it for a full refund. This makes it an attractive option for those who are unsure about committing to a particular tire as you can try it out first before making that decision.

It is important to check the conditions on this offer however as it only applies to a set of 4 tires all purchased together and tires not worn more than 2/32 of an inch. Any tires damaged will also not be accepted and finally the guarantee only applies to replacement tires bought and not OEM equipment tires fitted to brand new cars.

Pros
  • Excellent dry and especially wet performance
  • Very Long lasting durability
  • Good fuel economy
  • Affordable price point
Cons
  • Not the quietest
  • Lack of sporty feedback
  • Poor cold weather performance
  • No tread wear or mileage warranty

Conclusion

Depending on what you are looking for in a tire, the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 could offer the average motorist everything they ever need in a tire. It excels in being a dependable and reliable tire in dry conditions, with fantastic performance in the wet while also being one of the longest lasting tires we have tested.

These factors alone make it a worthy consideration for the average motorist today, however the lack of sporty feedback and dangerous cold weather performance may make it a less than ideal choice for the more adventurous driver.

However as a summer touring tire, we believe that it could do more to be a more comfortable tire for covering long distance. It also lacks a treadwear or mileage warranty, which we would expect from a tire of this kind. Therefore we score this tire a respectable 7.8 out of 10, however for a certain individual who is primarily after what this tire excels at, might give it a higher score.

Despite a few shortcomings, the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 is a dependable and long lasting tire that should suit the needs of most motorists. It provides good value for money and excellent fuel economy, something that will not be overlooked in today’s market.
