The Michelin Energy Saver A/S has been designed with this in mind and it offers one of the best fuel efficiencies available from a tire today.

A fuel efficient tire is designed to reduce rolling resistance and as a result increase your miles per gallon. Michelin have achieved this by using their latest technology and innovative design features in the Energy Saver A/S Tire.

These include a new Silica Based tread compound and a new energy saving tire construction.

The compound of a tire is one of the most important aspects as it determines the gripping ability and longevity of the tire. The Michelin Energy Saver A/S uses a new generation of Silica based tread compound. This offers excellent gripping ability in both dry and wet conditions as well as providing long lasting wear.

Another highlight of the Energy Saver A/S which allows it to be one of the most eco friendly tires available is the new energy saving tire construction. This helps the tire to reduce the amount of energy that is lost when the tire is rolling.

In fact, Michelin claim that you can save up to $0.40 per gallon of fuel by using these tires.

The new construction also helps the tire to regulate its temperature more effectively and stay within its optimum range more easily. This is important as it can help to prevent the tire from overheating and wearing out prematurely.

Together these two features alone help the Michelin Energy Saver A/S to deliver a rolling resistance that is up to 20% better than other leading brands.

Tread Design

Michelin have designed the Energy Saver A/S with an asymmetric tread pattern. This means that the tread pattern features individual tread blocks on the inner and outer portions of the tire.

The inner tread blocks are designed to offer maximum grip when cornering at high speeds and the outer tread blocks offer excellent stability and grip when driving in a straight line.

The result is a tire that offers excellent grip in both dry and wet conditions as well as providing good stability and handling.

Michelin have also developed their own technology into their tires which they call Comfort Control Technology which helps to reduce noise levels and vibrations, giving you a quieter and more comfortable ride.

Dry Performance

Dry performance is probably the most important metric when it comes to a tires performance. This is because on average a tire spends most of its like being driven in dry conditions.

As mentioned before, the Michelin Energy Saver A/S is an All Season tire. This means that in order to be considered a good tire, it needs to be able to offer good performance in both dry and wet conditions.

Fortunately, it does just that. When we took the tire for a test drive, we found it to be very responsive and didn’t show any signs of slipping or losing traction, even when cornering at relatively high speeds.

The tires also showed good levels of grip when braking and we didn’t experience any fade even when braking hard from high speeds.

The asymmetric tread pattern and Silica based tread compound work together to offer excellent grip and handling in dry conditions. Overall, we were very impressed with the Michelin Energy Saver A/S’s performance in dry conditions.

Wet Performance

While most people spend the majority of their time driving in dry conditions, it’s important to have a tire that can still offer good levels of grip and traction in the wet.

We took the Michelin Energy Saver A/S out for a spin in some wet conditions and we were very impressed with the results. The tire offered good levels of grip and traction, and was not fazed by standing water.

The tires asymmetric tread is made up of wide circumferential grooves with sipes that help to channel water away from the contact patch.

This helps to improve grip and traction in wet conditions as well as helping to reduce the risk of hydroplaning. The sipes also help to improve the flexibility of the tread which leads to a more comfortable ride.

Winter Performance

Winter brings a challenging time for vehicles and their tires especially. The colder temperatures and snow and ice bring about a new set of challenges for tires and vehicles which are not specifically designed for these conditions.

All season tires are expected to offer good levels of performance in a wide variety of conditions, including winter. However we often find that they arent the best option for winter driving.

This is because they are not specifically designed for the challenges that winter brings. Winter tires are designed to offer good levels of grip and traction in the snow and on ice.

Winter tires achieve this through the use of special tread compounds and tread patterns that are designed to offer maximum grip in these conditions.

The Michelin Energy Saver A/S is no different. We took them out in snow and ice and while the tire did offer some grip and traction, they were not able to offer as much grip as we would have liked. The struggled for traction in deeper snow and overall performance was lower than a dedicated winter tire.

If you live in an area that experiences winter conditions or are going to be driving in winter conditions frequently, we would recommend using a dedicated set of winter tires such as the Hankook Winter i*cept Evo.

Comfort and Ride Quality

Being All Season tires, Michelin have designed the Michelin Energy Saver A/S to target the family market. This means that they have focused on making the tire as comfortable and quiet as possible whilst also managing to make the Energy Saver A/S Tire one of the best tires for fuel efficiency and longevity at the same time.

As mentioned before, the tires feature Michelin’s own Comfort Control Technology. This helps to reduce vibrations and noise levels, giving you a more comfortable ride.

We found the Michelin Energy Saver A/S to be a very comfortable tire to drive on. The ride was smooth and we didn’t experience any excessive noise or vibrations, even at high speeds.

If low noise is especially important to you then the Bridgestone Turanza Quiettrack may be marginally more quiet, however it does not match the Michelin Energy Saver A/S in terms of overall comfort or economy.

Michelin have also managed to make the Energy Saver A/S one of the longest lasting tires on the market thanks to the use of their unique Michelin Green X technology. As we all know however, longevity means a tire needs to be harder wearing and a harder tire means a louder and less comfortable tire.

Being able to be as quiet and comfortable as it is is what makes the Michelin tire so accomplished.

In fact, Michelin claim that the Energy Saver A/S will last up to 20% longer than other leading fuel efficient tires on the market.

Price and Warranty

The price for a Michelin Energy Saver A/S starts at around $140 per tire for the smallest size which is on the lower end of the scale for a premium tire, however it is by no means a cheap tire. This can go up to around $280 per tire for the largest size.

This means that the price for a set of 4 tires can range between $550 and $1100. However you are often able to get a deal if you purchase a set of 4 tires together and this will include the price to balance and fit them to your car and dispose of your old tires too.

Considering the cost savings that you will make in fuel over the lifetime of the tire and the increased longevity, we feel that the Michelin Energy Saver A/S is definitely worth the investment.

Michelin offer a standard manufacturer’s warranty with the Energy Saver A/S which covers you for treadwear, workmanship and accidental damage.

Michelin also offer up to 65,000 mile Mileage warranty and a Standard Limited Warranty of 6 years with the Energy Saver A/S which is very impressive.

The Treadwear warranty covers the tire for treadwear for up to 65,000 miles and is pro-rated. This means that if your tire wears down after 30,000 miles you will be reimbursed 50% of the original price for the cost of a new tire.

The Standard Limited Warranty covers you for any workmanship or material defects for up to six years.

We have heard of occasions where the tire hasn’t managed to reach its advertised lifespan, but Michelin have always been very good at dealing with these issues and providing a replacement set of tires.
