Primewell Tires Review

Primewell tires are manufactured by the Giti Tire Group, a global tire manufacturer with offices in 11 countries and over 40,000 employees around the world. They are one of the few tire companies to offer a range of passenger car, light truck, and SUV tire sizes for all seasons.

Giti tires are one of the worlds largest tire manufacturers, owning and manufacturing other brands including Dextero, GT Radial and Runway tires. Primewell tires offer a combination of budget-friendly prices, good performance and excellent customer service.

Primewell boasts a team of over 600 knowledgeable R&D engineers dispersed across five locations around the globe and General Motors awarded Primewell their prestigious Top Supplier Award.

Primewell tires are put through grueling testing procedures in outdoor proving grounds located throughout the United Kingdom, China, and Finland (specifically for winter tire performance).

Are Primewell tires any good?

When it comes to performance, Primewell tires are known for their reliable handling and traction in both wet and dry conditions. The tread design is optimized to provide good grip for everyday driving while still being able to handle higher speeds without compromising safety.

In terms of durability, Primewell tires are known to last between 40,000 and 50,000 miles before needing to be replaced. This is a great option if you’re looking for a tire that can handle the wear and tear of everyday driving. They do tend to be a bit noisier than other tires, however, so keep that in mind if you are in the market for a particularly quiet tire.

When it comes to performance, Primewell tires are more than satisfactory for the average driver. However, if you’re looking for more of a performance tire, then Primewell might not be the best choice. They are not designed to provide the same level of grip and handling as more expensive tires, so if you’re looking for a tire to take on winding roads and sharp turns then you may want to look elsewhere.

Finally, Primewell tires are some of the most cost efficient on the market. With prices ranging from $55 to $150, you won’t have to break the bank for a new set of tires. Every Primewell tire sold automatically comes with a strong warranty program, so you can rest assured knowing that you’re covered in case of any issues.

Primewell Warranties

In the USA, Primewell tires are sold through Firestone tires, which means that tire warranties are also offered through Firestone.

Primewell tires come with both a limited mileage warranty and a manufacturer’s warranty. The limited mileage warranty applies for 4 years from date of purchase or 5 years from date of manufacture, during which time any tire that doesn’t meet its advertised mileage will be replace on a prorated basis under this warranty. They do not offer a free replacement period.

The manufacturer’s warranty covers your Primewell tires for any defects in workmanship or materials providing that it meets their criteria. It must have been purchased in the US and less than 10 years old from date of manufacture.

They also offer a free roadside assistance program for up to three years from the date of purchase, so you won’t have to worry about getting stuck on the side of the road.

Sustainability & Conservation

Primewell is a brand also dedicated to sustainability and conservation. All of their tires are made from natural rubber and recycled materials, and the company is committed to reducing their environmental impact through recycling, energy conservation, water conservation, and other initiatives.

It is a key target for Primewell to developed tires that consumes less fuel without sacrificing performance. It is through providing the right tires and technical assistance, Primewell promotes sustainability in the tire industry that benefits society by being more eco-friendly.

This is one of the reasons why Primewell has become a go-to brand for budget tires, as their commitment to quality and sustainability is unparalleled.

Most popular Primewell Tires Review & Rating for 2023

Primewells most popular tires include the Valera Sport AS tire, the PS870/80 and PS890 Touring.

Primewell Valera Sport AS (high performance all season)

Budget Pick
6.5/10We Try Tires Score
  • Good traction and grip in dry conditions
  • Great value for money
  • Even tread wear across tire
  • Confident handling and steering feel

The Valera Sport AS is sold as an all-season ultra high performance tire, designed to provide superior handling and traction in a variety of driving conditions.

The tire features an asymmetric tread pattern with four wide circumferential grooves and multiple sipes for improved wet weather traction. They come rated with both A for traction and Temperature, and a UTQG rating of 480A for durability. This means it is a relatively hard tire and is more than capable of being used all year round.

However in our testing it does not qualify to be called an ultra high performance tire. The performance of the Valera Sport AS begin to fall off as soon as you drive aggressively and understeer in dry or wet conditions. It also did a decent job of performing in the rain but accelerating from a standstill aggressively did cause the tires to lose traction and spin.

For an all season tire in this price range, this lack of sporty performance is to be expected. It is attempting to be an all in one tire and while it does perform better than most tires in its price bracket, it is not to be seen as an alternative to a true performance tire. If you looking for the experience of a true performance tire, then we would advise looking elsewhere.

Pros
  • Good traction and grip in dry conditions
  • Great value for money
  • Even tread wear across tire
  • Confident handling and steering feel

Cons
  • Low/short tread life
  • Few instances of sidewall and construction issues
  • Can slip in the rain

Review & Rating for 2023

Overall, the Primewell Valera Sport AS has been performing above expectations for a budget tire. They have managed to produce an all-season tire that is suitable for everyday driving. It has a good balance between dry and wet weather performance.

However, due to the short tread life and its lack of performance and comfort, this tire is best suited for those looking for an economical choice who want the feel of a sporty tire but that will not be driven too hard.

Primewell PS870/880 (Economy tires)

Budget Economy
6.3/10We Try Tires Score
  • Low cost and good value for money
  • Decent performance in dry conditions
  • Comfortable smooth ride
  • Good wet weather performance when driven within limits

The Primewell PS870 and PS880 is a budget tire that offers a good balance of performance and value. There is very little difference between the 2 tires as they are designed with the same tread pattern. The only difference is the width of the tire which will means that your size of your vehicle’s wheel will depend on which tire you choose, with the PS880 being the wider tire.

The PS870 and PS880 are brand new tires for 2023 that replace the best selling Primewell PS850/870. These were popular as the go-to budget tire for many Americans thanks to their superior performance and affordability.

Both the tires are designed as comfortable daily driver tires for use in the summer. With this in mind, we were satisfied with the tires performance in dry conditions. It was overall a sufficiently quiet and comfortable enough tire where we did not notice them running along the road.

In the wet we found that they were stable and allowed for good control of the vehicle when driven normally. Wet weather normally exposes some of the flaws of other budget tires leading to unpredictable and nervous handling, but the Primewell PS870 and PS880 do a good job of remaining inconspicuous and give you peace of mind on the road.

Being summer tires they are also hardwearing with a high UTQG rating. This means that like the previous generation, they are likely to offer a decent tread life. This did show however that colder temperatures do not suit these tires and traction became an issue when we tested them in temperatures around freezing.

They come in sizes suitable for most average small to medium sizes wheels, with sizes ranging from 13-16″. They offer good value for money as they are inexpensive, meaning that should you get a nail in your tire or any other irreparable damage, replacing it will be kind to your wallet.

Pros
  • Low cost and good value for money
  • Decent performance in dry conditions
  • Comfortable smooth ride
  • Good wet weather performance when driven within limits
Cons
  • Short tread life in rough conditions
  • Lacking grip when pushed hard in either dry or wet weather
  • Very poor snow and ice performance

Review & Rating for 2023

If you are looking for a comfortable summer tire with decent all round performance and good value for money, then consider the Primewell PS870 and PS880. For those on a budget or who are looking for an economical solution, these tires could be a great choice.

They offer fairly good performance in both dry and wet weather conditions when driven within their limits and have the added benefit of being very hardwearing, meaning you should get plenty of miles out of them.

However, they lack grip when pushed hard and are not suitable for colder temperatures or snow/ice conditions, so if these are things that you need to consider then a different tire might be more appropriate. All in all, the Primewell PS870 and PS880 is a good choice for those who want an inexpensive tire that will last them a while.

Primewell PS890 Touring (All-season Touring tires)

Budget Touring
6.7/10We Try Tires Score
  • Good wet and dry traction
  • Good grip in corners
  • Long tread life
  • Affordable price tag
  • Low noise levels

Primewell’s PS890 Touring is a mass market all-season touring tire that offers good all round performance at an affordable price. It was designed with the everyday driver in mind and features a symmetrical tread pattern along with large shoulder blocks to give it a modern look.

As an all-season tire, potential customers expect that the PS890 will offer good performance in a range of conditions, including both dry and wet conditions as well as cold temperatures. We found in our testing that to a certain extent it does.

With a firm yet pliable compound, the tire manages to stay flexible across a range of weather and road conditions. This provides good grip and allows you to maintain control of the car in corners, especially at higher speeds.

In the dry we found that the tire offered very good grip, tackling fast cornering and straight line stability at higher speeds without any issue. Braking distances were also consistent and the tire felt planted and direct on the road. While it wasn’t the most agile or direct tire we have tested, for average drivers, the dry grip levels are more than satisfactory.

In the wet, the PS890’s performed surprisingly well in both heavy rain, lightly damp roads, and also gave good traction in standing water. This is thanks to the PS890 Tourings’ large circumferential grooves that have been designed to help evacuate water and reduce potential hydroplaning.

The tires wet performance continued with respectable driving dynamics including steering, feedback and hydroplaning resistance. We did however find that braking distances increased in the wet, as is to be expected, but they were still consistent with other tires we have tested.

We were disappointed however with the performance when driving on snow and ice. With the tire being designed for touring, it lacks the aggressive tread pattern and siping of winter tires, therefore traction in these conditions has been limited.

The PS890 is fairly quiet on the road, thanks to its multi-angled tread blocks that have been optimized for an improved ride comfort. It also comes in a good range of sizes from 13 to 19″ and also features XL (Extra Load) tires for heavier vehicles.

Pros
  • Good wet and dry traction
  • Good grip in corners
  • Long tread life
  • Affordable price tag
  • Low noise levels

Cons
  • Loss of grip in colder temperatures
  • Poor in deep snow and icy conditions
  • Does become noisy at higher speeds

Review & Rating for 2023

Overall, the PS890 Touring provides good all-round performance at an affordable price and should be suitable for most everyday drivers. It offers a comfortable ride and respectable grip levels across both dry and wet conditions.

However, it’s not suitable for colder temperatures or deep snow and icy conditions, and may become noisy at higher speeds. So if you’re looking for a tire that can handle those harsher conditions, then you’ll need to consider a different option. But overall, it is still a good value choice.

Conclusion

Overall, Primewell tires are a great pick for budget-conscious drivers who don’t want to skimp on quality. Their predictable performance and durability make them a great option at an affordable price point, and with their excellent warranties and affiliation with Firestone and Giti Tires, you can rest assured that your purchase will be well protected and your vehicle will be safe on the road.

So if you’re in the market for a new set of tires and are on a budget, Primewell tires are worth considering. You usually get what you pay for with tires and more expensive tires are likely to perform even better. However for the price, Primewell are a great pick and should provide reliable performance in most conditions.
